Synergetic effect of host-guest chemistry and spin crossover in 3D Hofmann-like metal-organic frameworks [Fe(bpac)M(CN)4] (M=Pt, Pd, Ni).

2012

The synthesis and characterization of a series of three-dimensional (3D) Hofmann-like clathrate porous metal-organic framework (MOF) materials [Fe(bpac)M(CN) 4] (M=Pt, Pd, and Ni; bpac=bis(4-pyridyl)acetylene) that exhibit spin-crossover behavior is reported. The rigid bpac ligand is longer than the previously used azopyridine and pyrazine and has been selected with the aim to improve both the spin-crossover properties and the porosity of the corresponding porous coordination polymers (PCPs). The 3D network is composed of successive {Fe[M(CN) 4]} n planar layers bridged by the bis-monodentate bpac ligand linked in the apical positions of the iron center. The large void between the layers, w…

Spin Crossover in Double Salts Containing Six- and Four-Coordinate Cobalt(II) Ions

2017

The preparation and spectroscopic and structural characterization of three cobalt(II) complexes of formulas [Co(tppz)2](dca)2 (1), [Co(tppz)2][Co(NCS)4]·MeOH (2), and [Co(tppz)2][Co(NCO)4]·2H2O (3) [tppz = 2,3,5,6-tetrakis(2-pyridyl)pyrazine and dca = dicyanamide] are reported here. Compounds 1–3 have in common the presence of the cationic [Co(tppz)2]2+ entity where each mer-tridentate tppz ligand coordinates to the cobalt(II) ion equatorially through two pyridyl donors and axially via the pyrazine, completing the six-coordination. The electroneutrality is achieved by the organic dca group (1) and the anionic tetrakis(thiocyanato-κN)cobaltate(II) (2) and tetrakis(cyanato-κN)cobaltate(II) (3…

High temperature spin crossover in [Fe(pyrazine){Ag(CN) 2 } 2 ] and its solvate

2016

A high temperature spin crossover (Tup = 367 K) was detected in a metal–organic framework [Fe(pz){Ag(CN)2}2]·MeCN (pz = pyrazine). Upon heating, this solvate released acetonitrile guest molecules, which slightly shifted the transition temperature of the complex (Tup = 370 K and Tdown = 356 K).

Precise Control and Consecutive Modulation of Spin Transition Temperature Using Chemical Migration in Porous Coordination Polymers

2011

Precise control of spin transition temperature (T(c)) is one of the most important challenges in molecular magnetism. A Hofmann-type porous coordination polymer {Fe(pz)[Pt(II)(CN)(4)]} (1; pz = pyrazine) exhibited cooperative spin transition near room temperature (T(c)(up) = 304 K and T(c)(down) = 284 K) and its iodine adduct {Fe(pz)[Pt(II/IV)(CN)(4)(I)]} (1-I), prepared by oxidative addition of iodine to the open metal sites of Pt(II), raised the T(c) by 100 K. DSC and microscopic Raman spectra of a solid mixture of 1-I and 1 revealed that iodine migrated from 1-I to 1 through the grain boundary after heating above 398 K. We have succeeded in precisely controlling the iodine content of {Fe…

ESR, electrochemical and cyclodextrin-inclusion studies of triazolopyridyl pyridyl ketones and dipyridyl ketones derivatives.

2008

Abstract The electron spin resonance (ESR) spectra of free radicals obtained by electrolytic reduction of triazolopyridyl pyridyl ketones and dipyridyl ketones derivatives were measured in dimethylsulfoxide (DMSO). The hyperfine patterns indicate that the spin density delocalization is dependent of the rings presented in the molecule. The electrochemistry of these compounds was characterized using cyclic voltammetry, in DMSO as solvent. When one carbonyl is present in the molecule one step in the reduction mechanism was observed while two carbonyl are present two steps were detected. The first wave was assigned to the generation of the correspondent free radical species, and the second wave…

Discrimination of Radiation Quality Through Second Harmonic Out-of-Phase cw-ESR Detection

2014

The ability to discriminate the quality of ionizing radiation is important because the biological effects produced in tissue strongly depends on both absorbed dose and linear energy transfer (LET) of ionizing particles. Here we present an experimental electron spin resonance (ESR) analysis aimed at discriminating the effective LETs of various radiation beams (e.g., 19.3 MeV protons, 60Co photons and thermal neutrons). The measurement of the intensities of the continuous wave spectrometer signal channel first harmonic in-phase and the second harmonic out-of-phase components are used to distinguish the radiation quality. A computational analysis, was carried out to evaluate the dependence of …

Quantitative evaluation of the preferential orientation ofpara-phenylene vinylene pentamers in polystyrene films by optically detected magnetic reson…

2007

The morphology of drop-casted and spin-coated films of blends ofpara-phenylene vinylenederived pentamers with polystyrene is investigated by means of X-band optically detected magnetic resonance (ODMR) of the triplet excited states. Adapting an electron spin resonance simulation program to ODMR, the orientation distribution function of the oligomers in the films could be quantified. After drop casting or spin coating the pentamers from a solution, the oligomers tend to lie with their backbones in the plane of the film. The parameters of film preparation and the type of pentamer strongly influence the orientation distribution function. Also, the study of preferentially oriented films allows …

Interpreting concurrence in terms of covariances in a generalized spin star system

2006

The quantum dynamics of M pairwise coupled spin 1/2 is analyzed and the time evolution of the entanglement get established within a prefixed couple of spins is studied. A conceptual and quantitative link between the concurrence function and measurable quantities is brought to light providing a physical interpretation for the concurrence itself as well as a way to measure it. A generalized spin star system is exactly investigated showing that the entanglement accompanying its rich dynamics is traceable back to the covariance of appropriate commuting observables of the two spins.

Determination of local defect density in diamond by double electron-electron resonance

2021

Magnetic impurities in diamond influence the relaxation properties and thus limit the sensitivity of magnetic, electric, strain, and temperature sensors based on nitrogen-vacancy color centers. Diamond samples may exhibit significant spatial variations in the impurity concentrations hindering the quantitative analysis of relaxation pathways. Here, we present a local measurement technique which can be used to determine the concentration of various species of defects by utilizing double electron-electron resonance. This method will help to improve the understanding of the physics underlying spin relaxation and guide the development of diamond samples, as well as offering protocols for optimiz…

Quantum phase transitions for an integrable quantum Rabi-like model with two interacting qubits

2022

A two-interacting-qubit quantum Rabi-like model with vanishing transverse fields on the qubit pair is studied. Independently of the coupling regime, this model can be exactly and unitarily reduced to two independent single-spin quantum Rabi models, where the spin-spin coupling plays the role of the transverse field. This transformation and the analytical treatment of the single-spin quantum Rabi model provide the key to prove the integrability of our model. The existence of different first-order quantum phase transitions, characterized by discontinuous two-spin magnetization, mean photon number, and concurrence, is brought to light.
